Jealousy doesn’t look pretty on you

Golden locks the color of sunrise and distilled beauty
trail down her slender back, she is draped in jewellery,
Gleaming curls pooling at the waist of her silk gown
Framing her heart-shaped face like a crown
Skirts brushing her ankles, she turns gracefully
Her lips curve into a smile effortlessly
The sea of awe-struck faces parts for her, a duty they’ve been assigned
She is a goddess, the sun, the moon combined
I am nothing.
I am not beautiful.
Shrouded in darkness like a raven
I am a bad omen, a symbol of misfortune
My ugliness spills from every pore
The crowd does not part for me
A towheaded boy treads on my toe
He doesn’t bother to glance back
He is too busy searching for her
Her, her, her.
Always her.
Only when I look away does it happen.
A figure clutches her delicate waist
Yanks her squirming body towards his
Red blossoms across his cheek
She has slapped him
She has stumbled into the darkness
A single tear streaks a lonely path down her cheek
Oh,
I am enraged by the injustice of it all
Why won’t they love me?
Me, me, me.
